Intalniri la club
De joia viitoare incepem noua "stagiune" de intalniri saptamanale. Dac in timpul verii ba am fost prin concedii, ba am mers la plaja, iata ca vine toamna si incepem sa ne retragem la loc de taina.
Va asteptam cu drag in fiecare joie incepand cu orele 18:00 la restaurantul Kaptan Baba de pe bulevardul Tomis (vizavi de Primaria Constanta).
La urmatoarea intalnire vom discuta despre Carlo Scotti si pipele Castello.

Alex Florov ne surprinde.
Doar 1875$ pentru un vis.....
Pipa Elefant a lui ALex Florov (o puteti vedea aici), m-a facut sa il apreciez pe artist si mai mult. O uimitoare opera de arta care te face sa te gandesti cum de mintea si mana omeneasca poate zamisli un lucru atat de frumos. Oare e un vis sau oare Alex Florov a facut aceasta pipa intr-o dimineata dupa ce s-a trezit el insusi dintr-un vis frumos in care a fost purtata pe taramuri de basm?
De un lucru sunt sigur. Zeita Briar si muzele ei i-au oferit har si l-au inspirat pe maestru.

Joia aceasta
Daca acum 2 saptamani am discutat despre Barling si saptamana trecuta despre BBB, saptamana aceasta discutam despre Brebbia. Am pregatit materialul si asa cum v-am obisnuit am si fotografii din catalogul producatorului. Va astept joi la ora 18Ş00 la Kaptan Baba pe B-dul Tomis in fata Primariei.

Rolando is back
3 NEW PIPES FROM ROLANDO NEGOITA
After an all-too-long hiatus that most unrepentant of iconoclasts, Rolando Negoita, is back with three fresh pipes and (where have you heard this one before?) not a single shape of execution is quite like anything that I have seen before. Tonight we ask you to feast your eyes on the first smooth rhodesian that we have received from the artist (incidentally, the first bent rhodesian as well), an interpretation so intuitive and incredible that it has me making chimp noises that can be heard down the hall. Next up we have a partially sandblasted piece that combines dublin and sconce in a delightfully uncanny manner and then we finish with a flourish: One of Rolando's signature Frogs that features an ornamental carving that takes my mind to the totems that I have seen in the US Northwest.

Vom incerca ceva inedit. Dupa cum am discutat acum ceva timp, ne-am dat seama ca suntem dornici sa invatam mai multe despre producatorii de pipe si despre istoria lor. Maine debutam cu BARLING si invatam despre perioadele pre-tranzitie, tranzitie si post-tranzitie, diferentele in calitatea pipelor, marcajele tipice fiecarei perioade si istoria familiei Barling care a inceput cu pipe de spuma demare. Va astept cu drag.

In aceasta seara am primit pe mail o invitatie la expozitia cluburilor de pipa vernisata la Muzeul Pipelor si Tutunului din Harelbeke Belgia. Mai jos aveti invitatia:

I would like to inform you that on 26. April 2009 an exhibition about Pipe Smoker Clubs opens at the Museum for Pipe & Tobacco, Harelbeke (Belgium).
The first part highlights pipe smoking and pipe smoking competitions. The second part gives an overview of Belgian and International Pipe Smoking Clubs, each with the history, the pipes which are used, logo, gadgets,...
You can visit the exhibition until 1. September 2009 during the opening hours of the Museum for Pipe & Tobacco:
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10.00 am till12.00 pm - 2.00 pm till 5.00 pm
- Saterday and Sunday: 2.00 pm till 5.00 pm
Groups can make a reservation with the tourist office to visit outside the normal opening hours.
Tickets:
- adults: 2,00 EUR
- groups (from 20 persons), children younger than 12 years: 1,75 EUR
- teachers card, children younger than 6 years: free

Vineri 10 aprilie a.c., ora 12.00, la Muzeul de Istorie si Arheologie din cadrul Institutului de Cercetări Eco-Muzeale Tulcea, va avea loc vernisajul expozitiei temporare „Un viciu istoric”. Expozitia este organizată de Institutul de Cercetări Eco-Muzeale Tulcea si beneficiază de aportul următoarelor institutii muzeale din tară care s-au alăturat demersului nostru: Muzeul Municipiului Bucuresti, Muzeul de Istorie Natională si Arheologie Constanta, Muzeul Judetean de Istorie Brasov, Muzeul Judetean Mures, Muzeul National Secuiesc Sf. Gheorghe, Muzeul Judetean Ialomita, Muzeul Judetean Satu Mare, Muzeul Brăilei, Muzeul de Istorie Galati, Muzeul de Arheologie „Callatis” Mangalia, Muzeul National de Istorie a României.
Demersul expozitional este dedicat prezentării pipelor, confectionate din diverse materiale precum lut, lemn, spumă de mare, portelan, metal, considerate adevărate opere de artă, datorită formelor, tipului de decor aplicat si care provin din colectiile muzeelor care ne sunt partenere în realizarea acestei expozitii.
Va asteptam!

Acum 2 saptamani, prin newsletterul smokingpipes.com ni se cerea o denumire pt aparitia bilunara a acestuia. Acum cand printre solutiile propuse au aparut cateva care s-au repetat intre 18 si 27 d eori, iata ce comenteaza editorul newsletterului aducandu-si aminte de epoca Ceausescu din Romania:

The response was overwhelming. The previous statement is often used as a bit of puffery; in this case the phrase is quite correct, with close to two hundred responses. Yours truly attempted (in vain) to respond to each one of them on Easter Sunday. To those of you I simply could not get to, rest assured your entry was duly recorded.To paraphrase (sounds so much better than "blatantly plagiarize") Robert Burns, in the poet's native Scots, The Best laid schemes o' Pipes an' Men. Gang aft agley. And how! First, we did not account for the "great minds think alike" factor. We had three suggestions that had twenty-six, twenty-two, and eighteen votes, respectively. If the top suggested name won, we would be paying out $3.57 worth of stuff to each of twenty-eight people. Worse, we would have to admit twenty-eight new members into the Smokingpipes.com Fellowship of the Tin Foil Hat, and that simply wouldn't do! Therefore, in the case of multiple identical submissions, we're going with the first one we received and that person is getting the $100 gift certificate. So, if you see your suggestion up for the next part of the vote, keep in mind that doesn't mean you necessarily have a one hundred dollar gift certificate coming, it will be going to the first person in with that proposed title.To an entrant, every suggestion was a grand name, not a stinker in the lot (yet another indicator of the quality of our friends and customers). There were some that were hilarious and witty to the point of being dangerous. "The Nicotine Dispatch" "The Bi-Weekly Addiction" are funny enough that they might actually win. We can't really take a chance of that happening. Much like Nicolae Ceausescu era Romanian politics, you get a vote, but unseen powers have control over what candidates are visible. To the raconteur who suggested "The Bear Pause" and "For Goodness, Sykes" (depending upon which of us wrote the intro) we loved it but, should Sykes and I die in some bizarre methane explosion, we'd have to start this process all over again.
